Lusaka — MUMBWA High School pupils on Monday evening ran amok damaging property in protest against their deputy headteacher, Trevor Mwanza, who is alleged to have made sexual advances on a female pupil.
Central Province police commanding officer Grace Chipalila said police had arrested 28 boys and 14 girls to help in investigations. And Mumbwa district commissioner Alfred Sakala has condemned the action by the pupils and advised the school management to iron out the differences. Both Sakala and the school manager Michael Phiri yesterday confirmed the riotous behaviour of the pupils. Sakala said the district police command was investigating the circumstances that led to the riot.
He said according to reports he had received, the riots were sparked by a rumour that Mwanza had made sexual advances on a pupil.
He said pupils damaged windows to the Home Economics and the administration blocks. AllAfrica publishes around reports a day from more than news organizations and over other institutions and individuals , representing a diversity of positions on every topic.
